Overview of technologies in textiles / aerospace and Industry 4.0

About the session:

During the webinar, AEI Tèxtils will make a short overview of the project and will moderate a debate among professors from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) in Terrassa – the only institution in Spain that offers all three bachelor degrees in Textile Engineering, Aeronautic Engineering and Industrial Engineering.
Professors from the three departments will make a short overview of the different technologies in industry 4.0, textile use for aerospace application, and major trends in aerospace and aeronautics in terms of materials and innovation. The session will also include a Q&A session to facilitate interactions and standup questions.

About the speakers:

Prof. Rita Planas

Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). Rita M. is associated professor in the department of Automatic Control (UPC-Terrassa Campus), and she coordinates the Master’s Degree in Automatic Systems Engineering and Industrial Electronics, focused on Industry 4.0. Her main lines of research are related to robotization and automation of processes, as well as technologies included in industry 4.0. She has collaborated on industrial projects with companies from different sectors such as Intel (Arizona), Damm, Master Audio (Amate Audio), SMC, etc, and it is in this field where she is currently collaborating in technology transfer projects from the University to the productive sector.

Prof. Mònica Ardanuy

PhD in Materials Science & Engineering, Mònica is today Professor and head of the Textile Engineering Section of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya-UPC). Her research is focused on the development of biobased and sustainable fiber cement composite materials and smart textiles. Prof. Ardanuy has more than 50 SSCI indexed publications and is co-author of two patents and various books & book chapters. She is currently participating as principal investigator in various Spanish & European projects. In 2016, she was visiting scholar at University of California, Davis. Since 2002, Mònica has been teaching Materials & Textile Engineering courses at undergraduate, master and doctoral level at UPC and in other European and Chinese universities.

Prof. Miquel Sureda

Ph.D. in Aerospace engineering and Master in Science communication, Miquel is a professor at the Technical University of Catalonia in Terrassa and coordinator of the Master’s Degree program in Space and Aeronautical Engineering and the Master degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He lectures on flight mechanics and spacecraft designs. His main research lines include micro/nano satellite design, interplanetary mission architecture. He is also active in collaborative projects participating in DISCOVERER (H2020 project).

Besides his academic track, he is also a science communicator with the blog www.gaiaciencia.com, organizing workshops and divulgation science activities.
